Biofortification represents one approach to enhancing the availability of vitamins and minerals for nutritionally vulnerable people whose diets are deficient in these so-called micronutrients. It involves crop breeding to raise the nutrient content of crops, like grains, beans or tubers, such that they deliver more of a specific micronutrient than they would otherwise. The newly launched policy brief by the Global Panel lays out the technical evidence and arguments for considering support for biofortification as one element of a nutrient-sensitive national agricultural research and investment strategy.

We are delighted to bring together a distinguished panel to discuss this innovative approach to tackling widespread hidden hunger.
